Director's Notes About 'Broken Clay'
Our entire Cast and Crew spent 5 full weekends (Fri’s & Sat’s @ 15 hrs each day) back to back making the full feature Broken Clay. Once Broken Clay was wrapped, the D.P., who was also the Editor, held onto the files for almost 6 months without editing anything when through-out that entire 6 months when I would check in on him twice each month to ask him how everything was coming along and he told me everything was going great, he really hadn't done anything. I finally had no choice but to retrieve all the files and start looking for a new Editor. The 2nd Editor I hired was out of Ireland. When I sent him all the files plus the money we agreed upon, he shared with me, there were so many files that were lost and broken so he wasn't able to do anything for me. I had to try and search for at least one more Editor who would hopefully be able to do something because so many Cast & Crew had worked so hard for so many weeks and so many hours on Broken Clay. I finally found one last Editor (Tim Lee). When Tim received the files, he also discovered all the broken and missing files (how could 2 Editors who never met living in different countries be wrong?). Tim said there was no way he could properly edit Broken Clay into the full feature it was meant to be since there was so many missing and broken files. I asked Tim if there were at least enough files to make a trailer out of it since all the Cast and Crew worked so hard on the movie and the full feature could be re-made later. Tim said yes but he’d only be able to create a trailer with what he had to work with. I said let’s do it. Tim took a broken Broken Clay and not only created a trailer out of it, but, Broken Clay the trailer went on to win 20 awards. (Don't get me wrong, I hold no hard feelings towards the 1st original Editor and I have forgiven him however, I also have to give credit where credit is due). Thank you Tim. Tim and I are friends to this day
